Abstract

One of the most general problems in translation is the search for choosing an equivalent for the "conceptual and linguistic specifications", particularly
when they carry some specific religious meaning. The difference between
Arabic and English languages concerning the method of dividing time into day and night raises problems in translating the names of the five daily prayers
into English.
The present article surveying the above-mentioned problem presents some
solutions. This research, having studied the transItion of 20 students majoring
in Translation, two Jurisprudential treatises, and some other relevant texts, reveals the severe problem of equivalent-finding for these Islamic retuals. It
also highlights the need for finding terms which avoid any possibility of their
confusion with some of the Christian concepts.
