From historical point of view, ridda wars must be regarded with a great
importance and to have an acceptable analysis of it, leads to more accuracy in
analyses concerning the historical process of the expansion of Islam, as well as
the position of caliphate in the early period. It is clear that in the early
historical records, "lrtidad" in the crises of ridda used to mean in two ways: to
apostatize and to remain Muslim without paying taxes to the caliph, and the
confusion between two meanings has made some ambiguity in the historical
aspect of the subject. In the presented paper, as two funamental bases for
researches related to the subject of Riddaat at first it has been proposed a
frame for classification of the records on the basis of meaning of Ridda and
then the earliest historical resources concerning the subject of Ridda has been
introduced.
