The author of the Commentry al-Mabani li nazm al-ma ani was unknown till very recently. He is reveled to be Abu Muhammad Ahmad ibn Ali al- Asimi. Contrary to what some orientalists hold, he was a learned man from Khurasan.
His other book, Zayn al-fata fi sarh surat hal ata, is also extant. To expand his learnings, he traveled to Harat, Balkh and Kerman. He considered himself to be from karamyam. His ideas reflected in these two books, in addition to what scholars related about the facts of the karamiyye religion, aroused suspicions on what the heresiographers hold about this sect.
