Presenting a rather detailed and documented research on the root and
meaning of Pasha, this article deals with the conditions in which this honorary title have been diffused in Ottoman Empire. Clarifying the conceptional and
administrative transformation of this title and its conversion to an official
position in some governmental domains of Ottoman Empire, the present article introduces a number of the most bril1iant P-ash1ts and their cultural
